Additional Sensors

Whether it's soybeans, wine grapes, or turf, today's growers have moved beyond the days when managing the effects of weather was a matter of experience, guessing, and hoping. They now wear more than just their favorite farmer's hat: they are also meteorologists, hydrologist, plant physiologist, soil scientists, entomologists, and environmental scientists. (Not to mention business managers, financial officers, and mechanical engineers!)

We've made part of that job a bit simpler by creating a sophisticated weather system can give the grower the real-time and historical metrological data he needs to grow with the least waste and greatest yield. Add powerful software, and the grower is no longer making his best guess at irrigation, growing degree days, or spraying schedules. The data is specific to the grower's farm, not to the farm down the road or some spot miles away near the airport. Davis Instruments is on the leading edge of agricultural weather products for modern farmers, at surprisingly affordable prices.

But which station and accessories do you need?

The Vantage Pro2 Plus with 24-Hour Fan-Aspirated Radiation Shield, our "top of the line" station, comes with UV and solar radiation sensors. So in addition to forecasts, rainfall, dew point, barometer, humidity, sunrise & sunset, and wind data, you also get evapotranspiration (ET) - crucial for irrigation decisions.

Do you have a big farm? Vantage Pro2 Plus has a wireless range of 1000' - more than enough for small farms and homes. But farmers often have extensive acreage. With our Long Range Wireless Repeaters, Omni, and Yagi antennas, your data can transmit wireless for miles. For remote installations, you might also consider a Complete System Shelter, which lets you keep your console out in the elements.

Combine your data with powerful software to get the most from your system.

Consider either WeatherLink for Alarm Output, which you can use to control heaters, fans or other devices automatically using your weather station; or WeatherLink for Irrigation Control, which allows you to turn your irrigation system on or off depending on the ET and rain values reported by your Vantage Pro2 Plus. For a good night's sleep, add the E-Mail/Phone Alert Software Module and your weather station will call or e-mail you when conditions (such as frosts or freezes) approach critical - 24 hours a day!

Whichever WeatherLink you choose, you will want to add our Agricultural/Turf Management Software Module to get specialized reports on ET, chilling requirements, leaf wetness hours, growing degree-days and temperature-humidity hours.

Finally, consider one of our most sophisticated accessory: the Leaf and Soil Moisture/Temperature Station. This additional station lets you know exactly what's going from your plant's' point of view. You can base irrigation on weather factors, but what about the quality of your soil? Is the water running off or soaking deep into the root area? Bury soil moisture sensors (up to four) at different locations and depths, and you'll know for sure. Leaf wetness sensors mimic a leaf surface - it's like being able to talk to your plants!

You can further customize this station by choosing either the Complete System, which comes with four soil moisture sensors and four temperature probes; or just get the model without sensors and add the sensors you need. Mix and match your sensors. Choose from Leaf Wetness Sensors (you can use up to two per station); Soil Moisture Sensors (up to four sensors per station); and Stainless Steel Temperature Probes(up to four per station).

That's not all. You could also add a wireless Temperature/Humidity Station, or just a wireless Temperature Station.

However you choose to set up your agricultural weather system, you'll enjoy what growers have dreamt of since the first seed was planted by the first farmer: being able to second guess Mother Nature herself.
