What Is A Trolling Motor?

A trolling motor is an electric motor used to control and maneuver a boat at slow speeds. The main function of a trolling motor is to keep a boat running at a consistent, low speed while trolling for fish. Trolling motors are quieter than outboard motors, so they don’t scare away fish. Trolling motors allow better boat control at slow speeds. Trolling motors come in different styles and sizes. Some are designed for saltwater and others for freshwater. Some attach to a boat’s bow and others to a boat’s stern. Trolling motors are efficient and inexpensive to run since they use batteries instead of gas. The batteries can last for hours. Extra batteries can be carried on a boat, so anglers can troll for fish for hours.
